| 先日、実家のすぐ近くで開催している、浜名湖花博に、ぶらっと行ってきました。毎日、３万人の入場者があるそうで、日本人の花への関心の高さが伺われます。花博の展示ブースで知ったのですが、徳川時代の江戸の町は、世界一の花の都だったそうで、昔から日本人は、花が大好きだったんだなと感心しました。そんなこんなで、ふと思ったのです。そういえば、イギリスの壁紙を多数公開していますが、庭師の国民とまで呼ばれるイギリスで、ガーデンの壁紙って案外公開していなかったですね。というわけで今回は、イングランドの庭園とまで呼ばれるケント州にあるペンズハースト・プレイスPenshurst
Placeという貴族の大豪邸と庭園です。 この大邸宅は、イングランド最古のマナーハウスのひとつだそうで、公式ホームページを見ても、Welcome to 650 Years of Historyと歴史の長さを強調しています。実際は、1552年にエドワードVI世からシドニー家（サー・フィリップ・シドニーSir Philip Sidneyも、ここで生まれたそうです。）に譲られてから、現在まで、450年以上もの歴史を持つシドニー家の邸宅となっています。また、建物ばかりでなく庭園の方も歴史があり、個人所有のプライベートガーデンでは、イングランド最古のガーデンのひとつです。写真のローズガーデンは、時期が８月初旬だったので見ごろを過ぎてしまいました。有名なユニオンフラッグガーデンは７月初旬頃が見ごろでしょう。また、このローズガーデンの左手にはイタリア式庭園もあり、我が家には、美しくも手がとどかぬステラといったところでした＾＾ なあに、星にあこがれる者の戯言です。 |
