| ケント州にある、シシングハースト・カースル・ガーデンSissinghurst Castle Gardenです。今更説明のない程、有名な庭園で、現在はナショナル・トラストのプロパティとなっています。写真のタワーの上から、庭園を見下ろすことができるのが、他の庭園にはない特筆です。ここでケントを訪れた観光客は、必ず立ち寄るんではないかと思うほど有名で、世界が小さく感じるエピソードをひとつ。 私が前日泊まったB&Bに、私たちの３人グループと、３人家族のグループがいました。一部屋にベッドが２つの２部屋しかないB＆Bでした。そこで私と、３人家族のお父さんが、それぞれB&Bの奥さんが用意してくれた簡易ベッド?らしきもので寝ることにしました。日本なら床に布団を敷けばいいだけの話なのですが、ここは異国の地。そのような風習はないらしい。そして次の日の朝に、昨日の夜は腰が痛かったねと冗談を言って、それぞれ別れました。私たちのグループは、B&Bからは遠いシシングハースト城に向かいました。一通り庭内を見て回って小腹がすいたので、シシングハースト城のティールームで軽食をとることにしました。何気にふと横隣の人を見ると、どこかで見覚えのある顔が。なんと昨日のお父さんでした^^; イッツ・ア・スモールワールドとまた冗談を言ったのでした。 |
